What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is an ancient Eastern tradition based on the principle that all parts of the body are connected by energy pathways which end in our feet, ears, hands and face.
By applying pressure to the corresponding zones on the feet you are able to stimulate different organs and systems and therefore restore the body's vital energy, which will then encourage improvement in ailments and self-healing.
What happens during a treatment?
Reflexology can be a deeply relaxing treatment to receive.
I will ask you to sit on my couch and remove your footwear.
A full medical history will taken prior to treatment. All information is held in the strictest confidence.
I will then use my thumbs and fingers to apply pressure to your feet. Some areas of the feet may feel tender when pressed, but this will pass. I
I will concentrate on specific reflex points to stimulate or calm the corresponding area of the body.
After one or two treatments most people feel an improved sense of wellbeing occasionally people may experience a mild headache, feeling tired or needing to go to the toilet more often. These are normal reactions and should pass within a couple of days. Reflexologists believe this is part of the body rebalancing, part of the healing process.
How to Prepare for Your Reflexology Treatment
To help you get the most benefit from your reflexology treatment, here are a few simple steps you can take before your appointment
-
Wear comfortable clothing. Choose loose fitting clothes so you can relax easily. Trousers that can be rolled up to your knees are helpful, as I will need access to your feet and lower legs.
-
Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water before and after your treatment. Hydration helps to flush out and supports your body's natural healing process.
-
Limit distractions. Silence your phone if possible, set it aside to fully enjoy your time of relaxation. This is your time to disconnect and focus on your well-being.
-
Share any health concerns. On your first appointment we will complete a full health questionnaire. On subsequent visits please update me on any health issues. Your comfort, safety and care are my top priority.
